We are a production company that operates at the intersection of film, technology, and education. We are creators driven by a need to push the boundaries of what media means and how it can serve local and global communities alike.
Big Toe is a small, collaborative team, powered by award-winning media producers, directors, and video editors. We have produced video content and livestream events for national television networks like PBS, as well as major organizations like IBM, the University of North Carolina, Duke University, and ESPN’s non-profit arm, The V Foundation.

Matthew Maisano
FOUNDER
Matthew Maisano is an Emmy-nominated video & XR producer who has spent time directing in a live news control room, an edit bay creating shows for national networks like Food Network and HGTV, and producing content for PBS and award-winning web series with millions of engagements on social media platforms.
His documentary on the Forrest Fenn treasure story, Fenn’s Searchers, screened in film festivals across North America, was accepted into Amazon’s Prime Video streaming platform, and has been featured on CBS’s true-crime series, 48 Hours.
In 2019, Matthew decided it was time to leave his job at PBS North Carolina to build his own production company. Since then, Matthew has grown Big Toe Media into a nationally-recognized leader in media production and livestream events.
In his free time, Matthew enjoys snacking on Cheez-its, making his wife laugh with made-up radio voices, and watching documentaries about geography and fonts. He can often be heard saying, “In the future…”
Skye Schumacher
ASSOCIATE PRODUCER
Skye is a visual storyteller with a background in post-production, videography, and photography. She graduated with a Masters degree in Multimedia, Photography, and Design from S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University in May of 2021. Her Masters project, a visual effects short film Headspace, was selected for several film festivals and won a Bronze Telly Award in the Student Non-Broadcast category.
Skye grew up in Syracuse, NY which naturally makes her a huge fan of the only New York based football team, the Buffalo Bills. Her other interests include traveling and exploring new places, playing sports, swimming, hiking, and long boarding. She is also an avid DC comics fan and can tell you more facts about her favorite DC characters than you can count on two hands!
How We Got Our Name
The true origin of the Big Toe comes from founder Matthew Maisano’s sophomore year of high school. It all started when his English teacher was passing out test papers. He looked down at Matthew's foot and bluntly proclaimed, "Damn, that's a big toe!". The entire class laughed, but he likes to think they were laughing with him (that’s what he says anyway). From then on, he knew that his big toe was the source of his knowledge and creativity and only by listening to it would he fulfill his ambitions.
